Window tinting is essential in Qatar, where summer temperatures are high. However, one is not allowed to tint their vehicles completely dark for their safety and the safety of the road users, and there are rules to follow.
The General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior (MOI) registered 10,173 violations in the last eight months against motorists for tinting their cars above permissible levels.
The ILoveQatar.net (ILQ) team is here to tell you what the permissible limit for private vehicles in Qatar is as per the General Directorate of Traffic. Read on to find out.
As per Al Meezan, Law no. (19) of 2007 Regarding The Traffic Law, Article 69:
The use of dazzling lights in the front or back of a vehicle is prohibited, except in weather conditions that so require. Vehicle glass shall not be tinted by any means without the written permission of the Licensing Authority, in accordance with regulations established by Ministerial decision.
As confirmed by the Traffic Department in Qatar, below are the permissible limits for private car tinting:
Please note that if you want to get a % higher than the mentioned numbers for medical reasons (eyesight issues, skin issues, etc.), you must obtain permission from the Madinat Khalifa Traffic Department, after submitting a hospital report to the Traffic Police Medical Committee. The committee will decide how long you can have the higher tint based on your condition.

Please note that the zero-zero tint mentioned by the officer in the video refers to the type of tint which has clear visibility. This is the type of tint you should be getting for your cars.
We spoke to the officer at the General Directorate of Traffic Section, Al Rayyan, on 18 September 2023, at 10:35 am, and we were told that the fine for violating the rules is QR 1,000 and the vehicle will be impounded, too.
