The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) announced on 16 July 2023 the guidelines for vehicle noise levels permissible in Qatar with the aim of reducing noise pollution. The circular was disseminated to car and motorbike dealers and maintenance service providers in the country.

The MOCI mentioned that the noise levels determined are based on the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO). Outlined below are the GSO guidelines:

What is the allowed noise level for standard passenger vehicles in Qatar?

Vehicles used to carry passengers with no more than 9 seats, including the driver’s seat, have the following decibel limit based on the fuel type:

The decibel limit for high-speed performance cars shall be increased by 1 dB(A) if the vehicle has the following conditions:

  • Engine maximum power greater than 140 kW.
  • Installed with a manual gearbox with more than 4 forward gears.
  • The ratio between engine power and curb weight of more than 75 kW/t.

    What is the allowed noise level for larger passenger vehicles in Qatar?

    Vehicles used to carry passengers with more than 9 seats, including the driver’s seat and the maximum authorized mass of more than 3.5 tons, have the following decibel limit based on the vehicle's engine power in kilowatts:

    What is the allowed noise level for vehicles carrying goods in Qatar?

    Vehicles designed for off-road use and with a maximum mass above 2T have the following decibel limit based on the vehicle's engine power in kilowatts:

    Motorcycles have the following decibel limit based on engine cylinder capacity:

    What are the fines for vehicle noise level violations in Qatar?

    The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has confirmed in its circular released to car and motorbike dealers and maintenance service providers in Qatar that non-compliance to the specified decibel limits per vehicle will be dealt with legal action as follows:

    1. A fine of not more than QR 1,000,000 or imprisonment for not more than 2 years.
    2. An administrative closure of no more than three months.
