A Turtle Hatchling Emerges From The Egg

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s (MME) Environmental Protection, Reserves, and Wildlife Department has succeeded in releasing 2,024 turtle hatchlings into the sea. This is part of the project to protect the endangered hawksbill turtles for 2018 season. The hatching season started on June 6, and the process was highly successful with a success rate of 75- 80%, with 82 nests so far. The hatching process will go on until the end of the season by the end of July. It is expected that the current season would record the highest number of newly hatched turtles to be released into the sea, in comparison with 3,366 turtle hatchlings released during last year’s season. The MME had announced the closure of Fuwairit Beach from April 1 to August 1 as part of a project to protect the endangered hawksbill turtles. (Source)
