The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) announced the start of sea turtle nesting season in Qatar, spanning 4 months from 1 April 2024 until 1 August 2024. During this season, rare and endangered sea turtles begin to lay their eggs on the country's northern beaches.
The Ministry notes that sea turtles, including the hawksbill nesting in Qatar, are considered one of the migratory species and are protected under national laws and decisions, in addition to the provisions of regional and international agreements, due to their sensitive environmental condition according to the classification of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUNC).
