This May, Qatar Museums (QM) will host exciting new activities and events for the public to enjoy, including talks, tours, workshops, and family activities.

Crafting Zines: Experimenting with Printed Imagery Workshop

  • 24 & 25 May 2024 | 4:00 – 7:00 pm
  • Location: Bayt Al Wakra

Join Tasweer for this dynamic two-day workshop with artist Jood Elbeshti, where you'll immerse yourself in the art of zine making. Zines are hand-made publications using photographs to collage and story tell. This workshop will unleash your creativity and guide you in crafting unique, self-published magazines.

Make-up workshop with Hollywood-certified make-up artist Zeinab Kain.

  • Location: M7 Creative Learning Space

Zainab will demonstrate the application on a professional model and will be lived streamed for all to observe. Participants will have the opportunity to engage and ask questions regarding the latest techniques and recommended products. At the end of the workshop, one lucky participant will get the chance to win a personalised make-up consultation by Zeinab. The workshop costs 350 QAR and you can book your spot here.

Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) workshops

Art Painting

  • 11 May | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

MIA invites children aged 8-11 to join them for a workshop on drawing and design. In this workshop, students will learn how to improve their technical skills and develop their creativity and perception through the use of colours and integration. Participants will get to design a painting made up of overlapping drawings, pictures and colours. Please note that this workshop is hosted in Arabic. Registration is required through this link.*

An Artist’s Adventure

  • 11 May | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

An introductory workshop for children aged 5 to 7 all about the world of art. The workshop will begin with a story time focused on the world of art. Together, the workshop lead and young participants will explore this creative, colourful world, followed by an activity. Throughout said activity, participating children will be able to explore different craft mediums to expand on the things they learned in the story time, fortifying their knowledge of the art world. Fashioning An Empire – Watercolour Painting for Adults

  • 12-14 May | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Learn about the magnificent designs from the Safavid Empire in this workshop. Inspired by the Fashioning an Empire: Textiles from Safavid Iran exhibition, this workshop will showcase to students the magnificent designs from the Safavid Empire. Students will also create artworks on watercolour paper using drawing and watercolour techniques. Please note that this workshop is hosted in English and Arabic. Flower of the Past

Join MIA for an immersive workshop where young artists aged between 5 and 7 will explore the beauty of Islamic art and artefacts in a captivating gallery tour at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) followed by a hands-on workshop. Discover the intricate designs of various pots and vases, then unleash your creativity as you sketch and paint your unique vase designs on cardboard. Finally, transform your creations into functional masterpieces by adding holes for plants and flowers, inspired by the picturesque surroundings of MIA Park. The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) is hosting a storytelling session about the symbolic significance of Sidra trees in Qatari heritage, a guided tour focused on the history of pearl diving, and a guided tour for families.

Sidra Diaries

Join us for a storytelling session on the Sidra Diaries, where we explore the special symbols of Sidra trees in Qatari heritage. A Story of Pearl Divers

  • 13 to 20 May 2024 | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM (English), 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM (Arabic)

NMoQ is holding this daily tour, inviting participants to embark on a special journey into the history of pearls, starting with a search at the depths of the sea and ending with the trade which had a great impact on the lives of the people of Qatar. Family’s Exploration Journey

  • 18 May 2024 | 1:00 – 2:30 PM (English), 4:00 – 5:30 PM (Arabic)

Families with children aged 6-9 will join an interactive adventure through the museum galleries and family exhibits. Children will actively enhance their knowledge of Qatar’s environment, heritage, and culture by using their problem-solving skills.

Mathaf will run their regular art lessons with Ismail Azzam as well as workshop for Qatar’s homeschooling community.

Mixed Media Mashup for Home Schoolers

  • 8, 15 and 22 May | 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Create mixed-media artworks inspired by calligraphic abstractions in this 3-day workshop. Inspired by Mathaf’s Distilled Lessons: Abstraction in Arab Modernism exhibition, this workshop will teach young members of Qatar’s homeschooling community how to create mixed-media artworks. Please note that students are required to attend all three sessions to complete their work. Book your place here.

Art Lessons with Ismail Azzam

  • Every Sunday and Monday, Tuesday (for beginners)| 4:00 PM -7:00 PM

Join artist and curator Ismail Azzam for an art lesson at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. Participants will learn different portraiture techniques using various mediums, including pencil, charcoal, and paint. The workshop aims to provide a stimulating atmosphere for developing artistic talent, sharing experiences, and engaging in artistic discussion. Please also note: These lessons are designed for people with basic to intermediate sketching and drawing skills. Each participant must bring their own sketchbook – these will not be provided by the organiser.

Participants may also be asked to sit in as a model to have their portraits drawn.

Doha Fire Station workshop

Fire Station: Artists in Residence is hosting a fashion workshop, led by Alanoud Alghamdi, who will teach participants how to create bespoke mood boards.
