Vietnam faced Japan in the opening Group match of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™ on 14 January 2024. The kick-off occurred at 2:30 pm at Qatar's Al Thumama Stadium.
Takumi Minamino scored the first goal for Japan in the 11 minute. Nguyen Park scored an equalizer for Vietnam in the 16th minute, followed by Vietnam's Tuan Hai scoring the second goal in the 33rd minute.
Keito Nakamura scored the third goal for Japan, followed by Ayase Ueda, who scored the fourth goal for Japan in the 85th minute of the match.
Japan's Takumi Minamino won the best player award for the match.
The other matches scheduled for 14 January 2024 are UAE vs Hong Kong at 5:30 pm, played at Khalifa International Stadium, and Iran vs Palestine at 8:30 pm, played at Education City Stadium.
