What to do when you lose an item in these four public places!

It's always a burden to realize that you lost something after a whole day of working in the office or just being outside with friends. May the incident be in the park, mall, or at Souq Waqif, a typical resident in Qatar still can never tell the chances of their lost belonging being brought back to their custody especially when the place where the item was lost is a public one.

1. Airport

Travelers across the world use the Hamad International Airport's (HIA) Lost and Found Service to reclaim lost items and lost luggage. To contact the HIA, click here.

HIA's friendly airport staff will help passengers retrieve lost items. The office provides lost property registration, storage, deals with inquiries and offers retrieval services for lost items in the Passenger Terminal Complex.

On the other hand, Qatar Airways' Lost & Found search service assists its customers to locate the items they have left behind in the aircraft cabin or Airport premises in no time.

Please note the following:

1. Lost items are unchecked items often lost at Aircrafts or airports. 2. Passport and Identification items may be handed over to the local airport authorities. 3. Unclaimed properties are generally kept for 30 days. 4. All items over 30 days will be disposed or donated.4 5. Please note this may be subject to change in accordance with each governing regulations.

2. Transportation

As it was recently announced that the quality control team of Mowasalat is monitoring drivers and vehicles 24/7, the leading taxi-hailing company in Qatar is also taking their Lost and Found service to the next level by really taking reports into utmost consideration.

There are three ways to retrieve a lost item from Mowasalat:

  1. Call Mowasalat's Complaint Management Office either by dialling (+974) 4458 8888 or emailing [email protected] You will be shortly notified about the action taken.
  2. Go to the Mowasalat office and file a report stating the Karwa taxi's color, driver's nationality, date and time of transaction, and most importantly—the taxi number. These things will easily help you find your possession.
  3. Seek help from the police. You'll surely claim your valuables in no time as long as you have the above-mentioned details.

Or, if you found an item in the Karwa taxi's backseat, jot down the taxi's details, hand the lost item to the driver, and post a public service announcement on Facebook.

One official said: "We register complaints, suggestions and feedback from every customer and take action accordingly to address them."

3. Shopping malls

The Peninsula reported recently that increasing cases of lost children have become a burden on shopping malls and hypermarkets and some of them have even introduced new methods to deal with the frequently-arising problematic situations. On an average, three to five cases of lost children are reported at some shopping malls and hypermarkets every day with an increase in cases during the weekends.

This scenario is not anymore new. But what majority of mall goers are keen to know about is how they can be able to retrieve a lost item in a—let's say—extremely crowded shopping mall.

Let's use Mall of Qatar's (MOQ) Lost and Found service as an example for this article's purpose. MOQ, which vows to place their customers at the heart of everything they do, has a dedicated hotline number (+974 4034 6000) that their customers can call if ever they have any question.

As a shopper, if you find that you have mislaid personal belongings, feel free to approach MOQ's courteous staff, who will endeavor to locate any missing items and do their best to help safely return your belongings to you. MOQ's Lost and Found booth is located at their information desks at the ground floor near the main entrance. West Gate 2 and East Gate 2 and are operational during mall hours.

Please be advised as well that other malls in Qatar—not just MOQ—has the same service when it comes to lost items. Just visit the mall's website, click the Contact Us or Facilities tab, and you'll find all related information.

4. Universities

College universities are some of the most organized facilities in Qatar. And just like majority of establishments in the country, Doha-based colleges say that the management is not responsible for any lost items of its students, staff, and visitors. However, if you unfortunately ended up missing something, here are some things that you can do:

For this article's matter, we're using Qatar University's up-to-date Lost and Found service.

  1. If you have lost your personal belongings on University premises, contact the Lost and Found Office to complete an official Lost Property Report through this link.
  2. Or if you find unattended items on University Buildings:
    • Hand the item to the Lost and Found service or to the security in the building where you found the item within 24 hours.
    • Provide the following information: Your name, university ID (if student or staff) and contact number, a description of the item(s) found, date, time, location found.
