Sundance TV has announced its first-ever Sundance TV Shorts competition in the Middle East and North Africa region, following last year’s successful South Africa edition. This year’s winning entrant and three runners-up will have their films broadcast on Sundance TV later in the year.
Your artistic mind can rejoice now as Qatar Museums reopened the Fire Station and unveiled the special exhibition Picasso’s Studios in the Garage Gallery. The exhibition features 108 extraordinary artworks by Pablo Picasso selected from the unparalleled collection of the Musée national Picasso in Paris, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and ceramics. On view through November 1, 2020, the innovative exhibition traces the evolution of Picasso’s epoch-making art by presenting it in eight distinct galleries, representing the series of studios where he worked throughout his career. A registration fee of 50 QR is required to confirm your interest. Registration is open from 20 August to 31 October 2020. You must be between the ages of 8 and 25 to be an Ajyal Juror.
Featuring a journey through six decades and three continents, "Faces and Places" is Huguette Caland's largest solo museum exhibition to date. Huguette Caland was the daughter of the first president of the Republic of Lebanon. The exhibition features her paintings, drawings, caftans, smocks, and sculptures and evokes Caland's journey through Beirut, Paris, and California, encompassing the "faces and places that inform her rich oeuvre, all while highlighting the predominant theme in her work, the line."
A part of the series "Focus: Works from Mathaf Collection", this exhibition showcases works of artists, intellectuals, journalists, and cultural activists who played a major role in the city's cultural scene for more than half a century. It documents the experiences and knowledge of those generations as well as highlights the work of key artists of the past and present, with paintings, photography, video, and installations.
Currently displayed at Mathaf is Yto Barrada's exhibition composed of photographs, films, videos, sculptures, prints, and fabric works that focus on "threads of regeneration and growth in social and geological transformation". The works highlight the importance of the vernacular in processes of decomposition and revival, drawing on histories of nation-building and post-independence strategies of resistance in social and domestic life. An award-winning artist who has also held numerous solo exhibitions internationally, Moroccan-French artist Yto Barrada’s work engages with self-education, architecture, paleontology, botany, and modernist histories, in order to explore forms of knowledge production.

Katara presents the virtual exhibition “Heritage” to document the inveterate patrimony and to revive the past that still exist in the memories, and to retrieve this remembrance through paintings to be a witness of that important part of history.
The Museum of Islamic Arts has opened an exhibition entitled "A Falcon's Eye: Tribute To Sheikh Saoud Al-Thani". The exhibition showcases more than 300 outstanding artworks from prehistoric fossils and Egyptian antiquities to Orientalist paintings and masterpieces of the history of photography in a spectacular display following the concept of ancient (Renaissance) “cabinet of curiosities” reflecting Sheikh Saoud’s fascination with both natural history and the art world.
