Not only did Qatar make history by winning the 2019 AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Asian Cup for the very first time, it’s set to make history all over again when the FIFA World Rankings announces it’s rankings within the next few days, and Qatar becomes the Arabian Gulf region’s highest ranking team and the fifth highest ranked team in Asia after Iran, Japan, Korea Republic and Australia.

Qatar’s win over Japan with a 3 -1 final score in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup will also bring its overall FIFA ranking down to 55 from the ranking of 93 which it has been at before winning the 2019 AFC title.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia make up numbers 6 and 7 respectively in the FIFA ranking in Asia, and the updated ranking will put Qatar ahead of them.

The FIFA World Rankings listing is updated on a regular basic so it can record performances of teams who played recently, and either add them to the list, or move their ranking up or down, depending on how they played.

Qatar played an exceptional game throughout the 2019 AFC Championship where it won all seven of its matches with 18 goals in total, and one conceded goal, earning it the championship title along with the ‘most valuable player’ and ‘top scorer’ award for Almoez Ali, and the ‘best goalkeeper award’ for Saad Al Sheeb.

The team played with determination and a lot of patience in the UAE where it faced a hostile environment and even had shoes and bottles thrown at them in the stadium during the Qatar vs UAE semi finals match which Qatar went on to win 4 - 0. They also played without supporters from Qatar after the UAE blocked people from Qatar from visiting Abu Dhabi to watch the football tournament, although they did get a lot of support from Omani and Kuwaiti supporters along with other expat communities.
