The Ministry of Interior announced in a tweet that the Criminal Investigation Department was able to arrest two suspects for promoting pieces of counterfeit gold and offering them for sale in the amount of one and a half million Qatari riyals. The administration had received information about the presence of people carrying out fraud by promoting counterfeit gold. A specialized team was formed to carry out searches and investigations which resulted in the arrest of two people in Al-Mamoura.

The suspects have written down their statements confessing to smuggling a number of metal pieces to Qatar, estimated at 15 kilograms. The suspects also confessed that they mixed them with other materials to look like old pieces, to delude the customer that they are a treasure that belongs for long periods.

The competent authorities at the Ministry of Interior are calling on the public to buy and sell gold from authorized stores, only in accordance with the procedures followed.
