Ministry advocates responsible eid festivities at sealine beach and inland sea cover image

As per a report on The Peninsula, on 9 April 2024, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) tweeted, calling for responsible celebrations at top destinations across Qatar during the Eid Al Fitr holidays. These areas include Sealine Beach and Khor Al Udaid, popularly known as the Inland Sea.

The Ministry urges the public to follow environmental guidelines while visiting scenic places for marine life and biodiversity protection.

During the festive season, many locals and expatriates visit Sealine Beach and the Inland Sea to relax and participate in various activities. These two locations offer stunning views at sunrise and sunset, which makes them a favorite among photography enthusiasts. Both citizens and residents enjoy a variety of sea and desert activities, such as camping, fishing, swimming, dune bashing, quad biking, camel rides, and more, at these two spots.

It is important to prioritize environmental responsibility while celebrating and preserving natural treasures. The Ministry emphasized this message in its social media posts:

"Experience the wonder of Khor Al Udaid and Sealine Beach responsibly! Follow environmental guidelines and keep these stunning locations clean. Together, we can protect the marine life and the incredible biodiversity of this unique area. By doing your part, you're helping to preserve this beautiful place for all."

To keep beaches and islands clean, the Ministry of Municipality deploys cleaning personnel. Visitors are then encouraged to help maintain public hygiene by disposing of their waste in designated bins and following specific instructions, such as not having bonfires directly on the sand.

Why is it important to protect Khor Al Udaid?

Khor Al Udaid is a natural reserve that holds great value, as recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). According to the UN agency, Khor Al Udaid is "a remarkable landscape formed by a globally unique combination of geological and geomorphological features".

Those who have visited Khor Al Udaid have seen this natural wonder as a rare meeting point of sand dunes and the sea, where turquoise waters surge into the desert, forming the Inland Sea. According to the Visit Qatar website, this cycle allows the sea to bring in a variety of fish, crustaceans, and turtles. Meanwhile, birdwatchers might spot cormorants, terns, gulls, ospreys, flamingos, and migrating ducks. Arabian Oryx and gazelles can also be seen.

As the sun sets, the sea recedes and the beach becomes deserted once again. The dunes, on the other hand, transform into beautiful golden hues. Qatar has 12 natural reserves, and two of the most important ones are Khor Al Udaid and Sealine, according to the Ministry. In anticipation of a high number of visitors during the Eid holidays, the MoECC plans to assign patrols to meadows and natural reserves, ensuring the safety of both visitors and the natural environment.

The Ministry of Municipality has announced that it has prepared over 20 beaches to welcome visitors during the holidays. The General Cleanliness Department has deployed 47 supervisors and 205 workers, along with 80 cleaning vehicles and machines, to ensure cleanliness at public places and picnic areas.

During Eid celebrations, it's important to enjoy Qatar's natural wonders responsibly in order to preserve them for future enjoyment. Visitors can contribute to the sustainability of these treasured destinations by adhering to guidelines and respecting the environment. Let's all do our part in keeping Qatar's beaches and islands clean by not leaving any trash behind.
