Localized thundery rain and strong winds are expected in parts of the country by Friday afternoon, the Qatar Met department has said.
This marks the beginning of a short spell – until Sunday — during which there is a chance of scattered rain in some areas of Qatar, according to the weather office.
A detailed report issued by the Met department on Thursday explains that local convective clouds form during the noon, especially in the central parts of the country, due to the convergence of easterly and westerly see breeze in addition to the surface heating factor.
“As a result, air rises and thunderstorms form when there is enough moisture in the upper atmospheric levels. It’s usually accompanied by strong downdraft winds, causing blowing dust and poor visibility for a short period of time,” the report states.
Citing latest weather charts, the Met department said there is a better chance of local cloud development in some areas from Friday until Sunday.
Scattered thunderstorms and strong winds are likely during this period, the report adds.
The detailed forecast for Friday says it will be in some places early in the morning, followed by a hot and relatively humid day.
There is a chance of local thundery rain in some areas by the afternoon, and it is also likely to be humid.
Offshore, fine to misty (occasionally) conditions are expected on Friday.
The wind speed will be 5-15 knots inshore, going up to 25 knots in some places during thundery rain.
The maximum temperature on Friday is expected to be 38C in Al Khor, followed by 37C in Doha, 36C in Wakrah, Mesaieed, Abu Samra and Dukhan, and 34C in Ruwais.
Thursday, the maximum temperature was 41C in Jumayliyah and Ghuwairiyah, 40C in Karana and Batna, 39C in Sheehaniya, Umm Bab and Turayna, 38C in Al Khor and Abu Hamour, and 37C in Doha (airport area).
