Qatar Railways Company announces that it has received the first batch of the additional Doha Metro trains at Hamad Port.
The Company said that this batch includes two out of a total of 35 additional trains that were ordered according to the agreement that was signed earlier with the Kinki Sharyo manufacturer, while the rest of the additional trains will arrive in the coming months and according to the schedule by the second quarter of next year, bringing the number of trains serving Doha Metro network from 75 trains to 110 trains.
The trains are to be transported to Qatar Rail's Al Wakra Depot where they will be reassembled and tested in readiness for adding them to the network.
All the necessary tests includes checking the technical and operational aspect of the trains to ensure their compliance with the approved safety and security standards.
These additional trains will increase the capacity of the metro system, especially during the hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament, where it is expected that approximately one and a half million visitors will arrive in Qatar during the tournament days, these trains will also serve the future Doha Metro network extensions that the Real Company intends to do.
H.E. Qatar Rail's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie said in this regard that Doha Metro Network provides a means of transportation that covers the main destinations and connects between different areas in the country. These additional trains will increase the network's capacity and reduce the time between tips to provide a smooth transportation experience for the network users, especially during the main events hosted by the State of Qatar, such as the World Cup 2022 ".
"The increase of trains serving the network is a strategic step towards achieving the long-term project goals of extending the existing lines to cover wider areas," he added.
The Doha Metro design reflects the heritage and culture of the Qatari community with modern technology. It was designed and produced by the Kinki Sharyo Co. Ltd. factories located in Osaka, Japan.
Doha Metro is one of the fastest driverless trains in the world and the fastest in the region, able to reach 100 km per hour.
Doha metro consists of 3 cars, one of which is for Gold and Family Class and two for Standard class. The Gold consists of 16 seats and the family of 26 seats, while the Standard classes consist of 88 seats and the train is designed and built to world-class standards of modernity and innovation, they remain deeply rooted in the country's history and community.
Doha Metro is currently suspended due to Covid-19 and but it will resume on Phase 4.
