Qatar is growing and developing every single day. And as we inch closer to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2020™, there are major projects that are underway too! These are not only being built to improve tourism but also to help improve the way of life for everyone in Qatar! Want to know some of the projects we can look forward to in 2022? Let’s get straight to it!

West Bay North Beach Project

The West Bay North Beach Project is an exciting one and it was announced by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar. It is located 10 minutes away from West Bay Metro Station and is next to a number of shopping centres, hotels and parks The first phase of the project will have 6 Beaches. The project is all set to become a unique entertainment destination for families and tourists in Qatar. The whole project combines a public beach and 12 private beaches. It is spread across an area of 60,200 square meters and the length of the beach is 1.2 kilometres. It also consists of beach and pedestrian paths, cafes, play areas, multiple parking spaces for cars and bicycles, tracks for jogging and sports and much more! The beach project began in August 2020 and is set to open for all in August 2022. Are you excited about this mega project soon to be opened in Qatar?

Mazaya Marina Plaza

Mazaya Real Estate Development is working on its new project - Mazaya Marina Plaza. It is located on the Marina Walk in Lusail City and next to the Katara Towers project. The first phase of this mega project is slated to be completed by July 2022. This project comes with an open commercial area that is separated into restaurants and cafes on the ground level. You will also find open terraces on the second and third floors, next to the waterfront. This project has adopted the latest technology in external cooling and lighting systems for the convenience of visitors and shoppers. Mazaya Marina Plaza will also host a number of shops that connect to the Marina Walk. A hypermarket, office spaces, children's playgrounds as well as cinemas will be part of the project.

Expansion plans of HIA

HIA is moving fast with its expansion plans to achieve a capacity to handle more than 55 million passengers ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. The expansion will happen in two phases, the first phase of which is expected to be completed by 2022. As per Qatar Airways, "the first phase will link the North Node to the new Central Concourse, increasing the terminal’s annual handling capacity to over 55 million passengers by 2022, right in time for the World Cup. The expansion in this phase would take the airport’s capacity to more than 65 million passengers annually." There are many other things in store for you once the project is done! Street 33 in Industrial Area

This Public Works Authority (Ashghal) project is underway and it is called the Industrial Area Street 33 Upgrade Project. The aim of the project is to convert the length of about 5 kilometres of the Industrial Area street into a highway. This expressway will provide free traffic flow from 33 East Interchange on East Industrial Street and the Industrial Area Road reaching West Industrial Street. The expansion of Street 33 in each direction into four lanes will accommodate about 16,000 vehicles per hour. Two new interchanges consisting of two levels will also be built to link Street 33 with Al Kassarat Street and West Industrial Street. Another laudable thing about this project is that it will use 80% local materials! The strategic project is all set to be completed by 2022 and will be immensely useful for the users.

Gewan Island

Gewan Island is a man-made island located next to The Pearl-Qatar. It is one of UDC's latest projects and spans about 400,000 sq.m. This exciting island will be completed in 2022 and is all set to house 659 residential units, including 20 villas, a beach in a gated community and also 21 beachfront villas with private beach. You will also find 6 independent mansions and over 11,000 sq.m. of commercial space and 15 buildings that can be used for multiple purposes. They are not done with this, UDC also announced a golf course, a 5-star ‘Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar’ hotel, a beach club, an air-conditioned outdoor ‘Crystal Walkway’, seaside Promenade and parks!

1,543 km of road works by Ashghal

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has planned to complete 1,543 kilometres of road works, including 2,000 kilometres of footpaths and 1,028 kilometres of bicycle tracks by the year 2022. This comes as part of the 5-year plan which was started in 2018. The aim of the project is to implement a total of 25 plans for road safety assessment, traffic management, flying ambulance service, the study of guidance boards and ensure the safety of pedestrians and management of traffic congestion during the hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

New interchange at G Ring Road

To make the life of commuters easier, Ashghal will be introducing a new interchange at the southern entrance of G Ring Road near Ras Bufontas Free Zone. This comes within Qatar’s plans to complete Ashghal’s highway projects. The strategic interchange will connect the western and eastern free zones with Hamad International Airport, G Ring Road and the surrounding areas. This will also include Al Wakra Main Road, Ras Abu Abboud Street and the Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor. The capacity of this interchange will be about 10,000 vehicles per hour. According to Ashghal, this project will be completed in 2022.

Energy Playground at NMOQ

The National Museum of Qatar had announced plans to unveil NMoQ’s Energy Playground. One of the three playgrounds will be spread across the gardens of the museum and will provide a unique experience for all to learn more about energy and Qatar's history of oil exploration. According to NMOQ, "the playground families can engage in intergenerational kinetic play activities; from the extraction of crude oil and natural gas, through to their processing and even the by-products that in turn, benefit today’s societies. The playground will be entered from various pathways – enabling a 'choose your own adventure' industrialised experience and will ultimately expose visitors to the future of renewable and non-renewable energy."
