Rising COVID-19 cases not a cause for alarm, but fight against it not yet over: HMC

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has released a video on Twitter showing Dr. Jameela Al Ajmi, Executive Director of Corporate Infection Prevention & Control at HMC, speaking about the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Qatar.

According to Dr. Al Ajmi, the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the recent week is not a cause for alarm, adding:

“This increase along with the other emergence around the world of the new Omicron variant is a reminder that the battle against COVID-19 is not yet over.”

She further stated that the community can all play a part in the ongoing fight against the pandemic through three main actions:

  • First, getting vaccinated, including having a booster vaccine when eligible.
  • Two, getting tested quickly if experiencing signs and symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to a covid case.
  • Three, adhering to the precautionary measures including social distancing, regular handwashing, and wearing of masks as it has proven scientifically to reduce the spread of the virus.

Dr. Al Ajmi added:

“Current restrictions require a mask to be worn in the indoor seating and in certain outdoor seating, including organised public activities, large sports events, schools, and universities. Together we can continue Qatar’s successful fight against COVID-19.”
