The Central Municipal Council held its 16th meeting on 23 April 2024, headed by His Excellency Mr Mohammed bin Ali Al-Athba, Chairman of the Central Municipal Council, where the possible ban on energy drinks and smoking in electronic gaming stores was discussed as it was recommended by the Public Services and Utilities Committee.

It was mentioned that the Council’s Public Services and Facilities Committee recommended to the Ministry of Public Health to accelerate a decision from the Minister of Health that ensures energy drinks sales and circulation are regulated and also imposes control on electronic game stores to remain in line with the provisions of Law No. 10 of 2016 regarding the control of tobacco and its derivatives.
Furthermore, it was recommended that awareness be increased through all means regarding the dangers caused by the consumption of energy drinks.
The Council’s Public Services and Facilities Committee also recommended to the Ministry of Trade and Industry that stores and sales outlets comply with the regulations and standard specifications related to energy drinks and not mix them with other drinks.
And to also study the possibility of imposing an age limit on purchasing energy drinks, in line with the Consumer Protection Law.
