When the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar takes centre stage in Qatar just over three years from now, Qatar will more than welcome fans from the four countries - Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt – who imposed a blockade on it on 5 June 2017, with no end in sight, reported Al Jazeera., despite Qatar's continuing efforts to come to an amicable solution.

If the blockade continues and is still in place when the World Cup happens, Qatar has promised that it will allow fans from these countries to be part of this historic event and the first of its kind in the Gulf region, according to the CEO of the FIFA World Cup in 2022 Nasser Al Khater because it is a “World Cup for this region”. In fact, people travelling from these four countries are always welcome to Qatar because it has not placed any ban on them even with the blockade.

Qatar’s win in the bid to host the FIFA World Cup is one of the triggers for the blockade in addition to false accusations of terror financing by Qatar, its relationship with Iran and a demand to shut down Al Jazeera by these four Arab countries.

According to Al Jazeera, there is a stronger possibility among the blockading countries that Saudi Arabia and Egypt will qualify for the world’s biggest football tournament to be held on Qatari soil this time around. It was last hosted by Russia in 2018, and Qatar looks forward to hosting this mega event and welcoming the world to be part of it!
