Big Lift Education City Stadium

One of the proposed 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar venue, Education City Stadium, has successfully completed the 'big lift', a complex construction process of lifting the circular iron clad metal cables that will support the roof.

On its social media account, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy shared the details of this development. "The team at the stadium completed the big lift, which is a complex operation involving lifting two large steel ring with two layers of four metal cable each," said the statement.

Assembled around the lower tier of the stadium, about 30 meters above the pitch, the ring once in its final position will serve to hold the roof and will act as the foundation of the roof structure.

Education City Stadium

Nicknamed as the Diamond in the Desert, the stadium is situated in the western area of Education City's south campus and will welcome up to 40,000 fans for each game at the World Cup 2022.

The stadium has a design that draws on the rich history of Islamic architecture, blending it with striking modernity. The facade features triangles that form complex, diamond-esque geometrical patterns, appearing to change colour with the sun's movement across the sky. Like diamonds, the stadium's design represents quality, durability and resilience, and will become something to be treasured – both for the memories it holds, and its future value to the country and region.
