Qatar Science Leadership Program (QSLP), the nation’s premier science and research management educational program, today announced that enrolment for the new term has commenced from February until May 15. Aimed at upholding the country’s National Research Strategy, QSLP is a dynamic program that was conceived to address the shortage of a highly skilled scientific research and administrative- led Qatari workforce. Pioneered by Qatar Foundation in 2008, QSLP is held in collaboration with the most prestigious Universities and Institutions around the world and offers Qataris the full spectrum of sponsored higher education and career opportunities in a wide range of sciences pertinent to Qatar‘s national research agenda. To date more than 50 Qataris have enrolled in the program with many already part of the fabric of a new generation of nationals who are driving growth and development in the country, specifically in Health and Biomedicine, Energy and Environment, Computing and Information Technology, Behavioral and Social Sciences, and Humanities. This year, in line with its continuous commitment towards developing and nurturing a research culture amongst Qataris, QSLP announced the introduction of two new programs – Research Undergraduate Track, for undergraduates who are keen to pursue higher education in scientific research fields, and Research Postdoctoral Track, which trains Qataris to champion specific areas of scientific investigation that are of strategic importance to Qatar and the wider MENA region. “QSLP is one of the few programs that is dedicated to producing homegrown scientists that will steer the continuous development and sustainability of Qatar‘s human capital and research agenda. It is a highly structured and attainable program for nationals who are serious about building careers in scientific research and management. The addition of these new programmes means that even more Qataris can now contribute to the country’s development as an international hub for research excellence and scientific innovation”, said Faisal M. Al Suwaidi, President of Research and Development, Qatar Foundation . In addition to the two new tracks, QSLP continues to offer its flagship Research Scientist Track, which is tailored for Qataris who want to pursue Masters or PhD degrees, enabling them to not only build rewarding careers in science but also to develop Qatar‘s economic and scientific footprint, and its Research Management Track, which allows trainees to gain hands-on experience of critical areas relating to different aspects of research management. QSLP recently participated in London Career Fair on 22 and 23 February, with the aim of reaching out to Qatari students currently studying in the UK. At present an estimated 25 Qataris are pursuing higher studies at various universities in the country. With the cooperation of the Qatari Embassy in the UK, QSLP hosted these students at the fair to educate them on the rewarding and structured programs that it offers Qatari nationals who wish to return to Qatar to work in various scientific sectors of national strategic importance.
