Qatar daily The Peninsula reported that the Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched the National Authentication Service Tawtheeq, which acts as a national identity provider for all the government online services. It provides a secure authentication, digital signing, and Single-Sign-On (SSO) services and is a key component in e-Services development and security. It delivers improved security, usability, and efficiency for end-users of government e-Services.

The new system offers many benefits to both digital service providers and users, such as self-registration for users, user verification, single sign-on with the same user name and password for all government services, digital signing and other services, as well as simplifying of e-service integration through standards protocols.

On the occasion, Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti said that the National Authentication Service aims to facilitate a quick access of all users to government services and enhance the level of their information security in line with the Digital Government 2020 strategy, which, through its first strategic goal, stresses the need to upgrade the level of government services by focusing on the development of these services to beneficiaries, including individuals living and working in Qatar and companies that support economic growth.

He said that many government entities have started to follow the technological development and develop their digital services, making the improvement of the electronic authentication tools very important.

Through the National Authentication Service, all users can access services provided by government entities with the same username and password, the minister said, adding that this saves time and effort for the user and speeds up access to the required services.

The national authentication system also provides digital identity verification and secure authentication in line with the best global practices in information security, as well as appropriate solutions to the obstacles faced by government entities in developing digital services, namely, the difficulty of verifying users credibility in online transactions and the possibility for digital identity to be exposed to theft or breakthrough.
