Summer has arrived and some students are looking to formulate a plan for their vacation. Although relaxation is a large part of the student’s summer, some of them want to do something a little more productive. For those students looking for something to do this summer in Qatar here are a few things to consider as a head start.

1. Volunteering

Volunteering in Qatar

Something great to pour out some energy into during the summer is giving back to the community. There are multiple programs that ask for volunteers in animal shelters where you can spend time with cute little animals, or taking care of the environment. Help take care of them at Paws Rescue Qatar or Qatar Animal Welfare Society. If you have a skill you would like to teach children volunteering with Reach out to Asia (ROTA) might be for you. Check out this link for more information and volunteering opportunities.

    2. Entertainment

With a visa-free entry for all this summer in Qatar, exciting activities and events are planned from June 4th to August 16th. Many discounts and offers are available! They include discounts on hotels, culture passes that involve visiting some of Qatar’s best cultural institutions, outdoor and indoor theme parks, raffles and exciting shows from international and Arab artists with a comedy festival to top it all off. 3. Join a book club

Maybe it is time for you to start reading that pile of books that you have lying around. If you need a little motivation, why not join a book club? Some book clubs in Qatar are The Book Fairies (who are really like fairies) and Doha Book Worms. They choose books monthly to later discuss at a gathering. Take it as an opportunity to connect and meet new people.

The latest books both clubs are reading are The Bone People by Keri Hulme and Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

        4. Workshops

Why not develop a new skill? Or learn a new language? Summer is your time, make the most of it and attend workshops!

Wonder what it’s like to work with leather? give The Dromedary Club’s leather crafting workshop a try! You will learn how to hand-stitch a wallet from scratch and enjoy some coffee too. Another workshop to consider is a knitting and crochet circle at Qatar National Library. They meet every Thursday to work on their projects or have discussions. All levels of knitters are welcome (even beginners) and the supplies are available to you. If you are a little more artistic Arts & Crafts offer a variety of classes during the summer for you to try out!

          5. Internships

Getting a little hands-on experience in a field of your interest or study is great for your resume and a smart way to spend your summer. Try applying to more than one place for options.

A few places who are offering internships include DFI, ILoveQatar.net, Stantec, IBM, and GECF.

            6. 5-hour away trips from Qatar

If you’re feeling a little more adventures why not explore a new culture? Whether it is Salalah, Istanbul or Baku, there are many beautiful nearby places that are surely worth the visit. Exploring unique architecture, trying a new set of flavors and delving into the rich history of a place is enlightening and perfect to escape some of the summer heat.
