QRC a boon to community in Myanmar

Doha, February 25,2013- Qatari Red Crescent (QRC) announced the construction of 60 residential compounds with total 480 units to accommodate 480 families (approximately 3000 persons) in Rakhine Province of Myanmar. The project, which was done by the QRC’s field office in Myanmar, consists 60 compounds, each has 8 units one water hand-pump. The construction works started last January, where 2500 workers and handymen from the nearby camps were involved in the works. The residential units are expected to be handed to the beneficiaries during the first week of March, before the rain season that normally starts early April. QRC field office in Myanmar, through its experienced personnel, conducts fields assessments and regular visits to follow up on the projects’ implementation and the provision of the aides to the needy people. QRC signed last September, with Myanmar’s Red Cross, a two-year cooperation agreement on carrying out relief projects for the people displaced by the violence that erupted in the region.
