The Public Works Authority, also known as Ashghal, has recently announced the tender for a panda enclosure at Al Khor Zoo. The project involves the design and build for the construction of a panda enclosure and touristic viewing facility at Al Khor Zoo.

Al Khor Family Park has reopened earlier this year after it was closed late last year for redevelopment. Two of the most popular features in the park are its zoo and aviary. The park currently has seven new sections in the mini zoo which house a large number of different birds and animals. If the project becomes a reality, the pandas will become the latest additions to the 315 animals from 49 different species currently in the zoo and aviary.

Although no longer endangered, Giant Pandas are still classified as a vulnerable species, according to WWF. They're native to China and considered as a national treasure. These adorable animals beloved worldwide have often been loaned by China around the world in a program known as "panda diplomacy" which seems to have existed since the Tang Dynasty.
