Al Khor Family Park to reopen for public on Sunday

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) is all set to reopen the new and improved Al Khor Family Park on Sunday (16 February 2020). The park was closed in November 2019 for maintenance and redevelopment purposes, according to a twitter post by MME/Baladiya.

This beautiful well-manicured park is the perfect destination for those who want to spend some quality time away from the city rush. The 240,000 square metre park features a zoo, a waterfall and a battery-operated train, a spacious restaurant, mosque, museum, mini golf area, wall mural, skating area, children’s play area, basketball court, food kiosks, drinking fountain, waterfall and an amphitheater.

Mini Zoo and Aviary

The park will now include seven new sections in the mini zoo which now contain a large number of different birds and animals. The Park has added 290 new animals to bring the total to 315 animals from 49 different species.

The aviary, is one of the main attractions of the park and contains a water fall, a lake and is home to different birds. Families enjoy walking through the aviary and spending time there.

Train

Another main attraction of the park is the train that can accommodate 60 passengers and passes through three stations dedicated to it and inside the train tunnels there are kid-friendly murals to entertain the kids.

Safety and security

The safety and security standards have also been redeveloped to ensure that all visitors to the park can spend time there without having to worry about anything.

Play and sports areas

Al Khor Park has two play areas: one for older children and one for younger children. These play areas are completely covered with a rubber floor and cover an area of approximately 4,000 square metres. There is also an external area for sports and surfboarding.

Roman Amphitheatre

The Park has a Roman-like amphitheatre that can accomodate about 400 people. This theatre can be used for events and parties.

Museum

The museum within the Al Khor Family Park is a must visit and anyone who loves history will enjoy this place.

Mosque

The Mosque in the park can accomodate 360 worshippers.

Parking

Parking is spacious with 700 parking spots, 13 disabled parking spots and six bus stops.

Special needs facilities

There are dedicated pathways for people who have special needs to make their visit to the park comfortable and safe.

Green spaces

The Al Khor Family Park has well-manicured green spaces and is home to 42 types of trees, shrubs and different plants that add to the beauty of this much loved park.

Bathrooms

The Park has six bathrooms that are maintained round the clock and can easily facilitate those with special needs.

Entry fee: QR 15 per person (adults); QR 10 for kids (up to 10 years of age)
Ticket price for the train: QR 5 per person
Timings:
Saturday to Thursday: 8 am - 11 pm; Friday: 2 pm - 11 pm; Tuesday: exclusively for women and children.
