MG gave us the keys for their RX8 to test it out over the weekend, and you can imagine our excitement! Why were we so excited?
MG has delivered a bold and capable seven-seat SUV - The MG RX8 - that provides incredible style with off-road capability, luxurious comfort, and some of the finest automotive technology available. This beautifully designed SUV comes with some really neat and exciting features for its price point.
Below we’ve reviewed this beauty and broken down the review into four different segments: design, features, performance and last, but not the least, safety.

There’s something simple but captivating about the design of the new MG RX8. Whether it’s the bold stance, the high ride height, or the smooth body lines, the silhouette of the model is enough to capture the attention. On closer inspection, the dual-slot hood, silver lip, and bold chrome grille demonstrate that there is plenty of refined flourishes that will impress.
When you look inside the MG RX8, you’ll find a premium interior using mostly leather and this gives the SUV a nice high-end feel. The theatre-style cockpit design will make you catch your breath it’s that brilliant, and crafted keeping in mind space and your comfort. Even those sitting in the third row will get an unparalleled view!
The MG RX8 is fitted with seven seats which is a first for the MG. The third-row seat gives you the capacity to seat two more passengers and can also be folded down if you need more space for luggage or cargo. One thing’s, for sure, no matter where you’re going in the RX8, you’ll always be snug and comfortable.
The seats mainly use leather with premium stitching. Faux wood has been used instead of plastic to give a more premium look to the interior, and the truth is, it looks fabulous, and we know, you’ll love it, too!
If you get the full option variant of the RX8, you’ll get to enjoy the car roof which is a unique feature of this SUV. The car roof features glass, and by features, we mean it’s literally an all-glass roof giving you that beautiful panoramic view of the stars at night or the blue skies during the daytime!

The car features six speakers around the cabin with a very punchy bass and sound. Trust us when we say we didn’t even have to crank the sound past 4 to get a good amount of sound in the cabin.
The 10" touch screen is not only very responsive, the colours are vivid and bright ensuring good daytime visibility.
We believe if you’re living here in Qatar, you must have encountered cars with lights so bright, you can barely see anything in the rearview mirror; not with the MG RX8 though. It features auto-dimming rearview mirrors making your driving at night ever so better!
Yes, you read that right, this car features a wall socket of up to 150 watts output meaning you can charge your laptop or maybe, even, iron your clothes on the go. Interesting, right!
Whether it's winter or summer, one thing's for sure, the front two seats of the cars will be cosy and snug because they're ventilated with both cold and hot settings, so you can stay cool when its summer and warm when its winter.
There's an air purifier that keeps the air inside the cabin dust free. It's a great feature for those that suffer from allergies. What else could you ask for?
There are 8 air vents in total, with four in the front and four in the back, and each one can be controlled individually. Neat, don't you think. No more arguments in the SUV about it being too hot or too cold! Talk about having freedom!
Going to Dukhan or Al Khor? You don’t have to press your accelerator pedal the whole journey; just turn on cruise control and let your feet relax a bit!

Now, we’ll talk about the performance of the MG RX8. When it comes to the engine and performance, MG has another trick under its sleeve. The engine has enough punch to easily go off-roading, dune bashing.
You’ll thoroughly enjoy the 4x2 RWD on the MG RX8 STD trim and real-time Torque on Demand (TOD) 4x4 drive system on the COM and LUX trim which changes the torque in 0.1 sec, you can choose between part-time and all-time 4x4 driving modes combined with the driving mode selector. There are six driving modes:
When it comes to safety, the MG RX8 has taken care of it all, and that’s why it has a 5-star C-NAP safety rating. It’s well-equipped with standard safety features which include the front, side and curtain airbag, front and rear sensors with rearview camera, cruise control, active rollover protection and tyre pressure monitoring system. It also has ADAS features like the lane departure warning system on the LUX trim making it a robust choice at this price point
Overall, we think the MG RX8 is one of the best cars in its class. Highly recommended! The car starts at QR 87,000 for the base model and comes with six years of warranty and one free service.
