Doha,April,10:One of the major contracts for Doha’s new Metro system – the Red Line North – is set to be awarded “by the end of the week”, according to the project’s senior programme director, Adrian Shaw.
Speaking at CW’s Leaders in Construction Qatar conference at the Doha Grand Hyatt earlier today, Shaw said that the red line was one of four major underground contracts that are set to be awarded within the coming weeks.
The contract for the Metro’s most important station – the Msheireb station in Downtown Doha that links all of the Metro lines – is also expected to be awarded “within the next few days”, according to Shaw.
In total, four contracts covering underground packages of the metro line and two major station packages are all due to be awarded to contractors “imminently”, he added. Three packages for elevated sections of the track are due to be awarded by the end of the second quarter of 2013.
Meanwhile, a tender is set to be issued by the end of the month for a single package covering al of the system’s rolling stock. A six-month process will ensue, and once tenders are evaluated a package will be awarded during the fourth quarter of 2014.
