Katara lines up Eid events

Katara Cultural Village has lined up a programme of activities to run throughout the Eid al-Fitr holiday, including a fireworks display each evening at 8.30. A spokesperson said thousands of visitors had taken part in the Ramadan activities at Katara this year, which included four art exhibitions. The exhibitions running are ‘The Beauty of Words,’ an Islamic Arts exhibition in collaboration with the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani museum, ‘The Garden of Contemplation,’ a large light installation exhibition by artist Simon Heijdens, ‘A Matter of Time,’ a clocks sculpture exhibition by artist Daniel Weil, and a painting exhibition with recent works by Qatari artists incorporating Arabic calligraphy in their work. Over Ramadan, visitors have enjoyed the Anasheed Festival which featured the likes of Maher Zain, Toyar Al Janah and Mishari Al Afasy, and the traditional Garangao celebrations saw 10,000 guests joining the festivities. Cultural affairs director at Katara, Emad Sultan, said: “We are extremely pleased with the response we have received for the Ramadan programmes.
