National Sport Day is a pioneer initiative adopted by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent ...who issued the Emiri Decree No. 80 for the year 2011 on 06 December 2011, concerning the State’s National Sports Day. The Decree states that Tuesday in the second week of February each year will be the State’s National Sports Day.

Celebrating the National Sport Day reveals the importance of sport as a significant factor to help domestic institutions achieving their goals by creating a healthy community at both physical and psychological levels.
This year, it falls on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016. Institutions and private companies organize a long list of sports-related activities for employees and the public to take part in the spirit of the day.

Doha Dash 2016

The Dolphin Energy Doha Dash 2016 will also feature a number of fun activities to keep spectators and young families entertained throughout the event, including the GO Sport Fitness Centre equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, GO Sport basketball challenge and experts offering tips and training techniques. The race’s airline partner, Etihad Airways will be bringing their state-of-the-art Formula 1 simulators for everyone to enjoy.

Beach Rugby Challenge at Katara

This year’s Beach Rugby Challenge will take place on National Sports Day, Tuesday February 9, 2016 at the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara Beach no.4.

Beach touch rugby is a non-contact, fast-moving game that is suitable for adults or children. It is a safe, soft-contact sport full of fast moving ball action. Touch rugby is a fast-growing version of the sport, and the Qatar Rugby Federation (QRF) encourages all clubs and playing organization to look to organize regular touch rugby activity to increase fitness and participation.

Aspire Football League on National Sports Day

Aspire Academy this morning conducted a draw that determined the groups taking part in the final round of the Aspire Football League, which will take place on 9 February 2016, coinciding with National Sports Day.

Following the draw, the 2004 Group A will consist of Al Sadd SC, Al Rayyan SC and Al Arabi SC, while the 2004 Group B will consist of Al Gharafa SC, Al Wakrah SC and Al Ahli SC. The 2005 Group A will consist of Al Sadd SC, Al Khor SC and Al Wakrah SC, while the 2005 Group B will consist of Al Ahli SC, Lekhwiya SC and Al Gharafa SC.

While the final matches will be played between the participating QFA clubs only, the ongoing league will still offer the boys from the Aspire Academy exposure to a variety of techniques, styles and playing strategies that will enrich their development. The increased exposure will help develop the boys and create a higher-level football culture.

Referees from the QFA and coaches from Aspire Academy will be on-site during the final matches. The winning teams will receive a trip to the Sealine resort at the end of the season for members of the team and staff. Matches will kick off at 9:15 at pitch 4.

Sharaka Sports Day 2016

Over 500 Sharaka team members and their families will participate in different activities ranging from Football, Volleyball, Basketball and Zumba to lots of other games specially for the little ones.

The event will be held at Shereborne Qatar School on the 9th of February from 8:00 A.M.- 1:00 P.M.

Qatar Olypic Committee: 'Be Olympic' on National Day

With less than six months to go until the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) is encouraging the nation to get together and celebrate Olympic sport on National Sport Day 2016. The QOC has today released information about the Olympic sporting activities that will be on offer for all ages and abilities across Qatar.

The QOC will be organising activities in the Qanat Quartier of The Pearl in conjunction with the United Development Company. From 8am-4pm, the beachfront will come alive with sporting activities, competitions and entertainment. To mark Doha’s hosting of the 2016 UCI Road World Championships, there will be an opportunity for visitors to the activity area to win a brand new bike. Cycling fans will also be able to watch the Tour of Qatar travel through The Pearl between 1-3pm.

The QOC’s National Federations will be organising activities across Qatar, with the main hubs at Katara, the Corniche, Aspire Park and Al Gharrafa. With taster sessions and demonstrations taking place throughout the day in over 30 different sports, National Sport Day provides an opportunity to try new sports and pick up old ones. Sports and activities range from football, athletics and handball to bowling, golf, hockey and para-sport. National Sport Day is an annual event celebrated across Qatar on the second Tuesday of February. Qatar is one of the only countries in the world to have a public holiday dedicated to sport and it aims to bring the nation together in a shared celebration of sport and inspire people to lead active and healthy lifestyles. This year’s National Sport Day will take place on 9th February 2016.

Since the issuance of the Emiri degree in 2011 announcing the introduction of Qatar’s National Sports Day, Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has been keen to encourage community participation in this important occasion through hosting a unique series of entertaining activities for families and all members of the community. The range of activities available this year at Aspire Zone reflects the uniqueness that has characterised AZF’s National Sports Day programme during the last four years.

Aspire Academy, Aspetar and Aspire Logistics – AZF will be organising a number of exclusive activities for families and all members of the community to enjoy. Many of these activities are only available at Aspire. They expect to attract thousands of sports enthusiasts, as well as individuals, government entities, and private sector institutions, who come to Aspire Zone every year and contribute to making this day special and creating a fun and enjoyable environment.
