The Ministry of Labour (MoL) on 26 October 2023, has announced the launch of a new digital service, “Request to Join the Labour Market (Change from Family Residency to Work Residency)”.

As per the ministry, this process:

Definition

Allows residents in Qatar who live under nonwork-related permits (family residencies) to join the labour market by changing their permits to "for the purpose of work." The process starts with the new employer applying to add the resident as a worker.

Target groups

• Employers in the private sector
• Resident who is in Qatar for non-working purposes (family residence)

Requirements and Conditions

• Smart card to verify (through NAS) the identity of establishment personnel authorized to use the service.
• The phone number provided in the request by the establishment must match the phone number associated with the employee's QID.
• Registration of Individuals in the National Address.
• Registration in the National Authentication System before entering the portal.
• The Establishment Card (EID) must be active and is not suspended on the system.
• No personal suspension on the new employer.
• There are no other applications of the same type under study for the same worker.
