Special events to organise in Qatar to celebrate “Doha – the Capital of Islamic Youth 2019”

Under the patronage of Amir H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday inaugurated “Doha–The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019” under the motto ‘Youth is the Power of the Nation. The slogan stems from the challenges being faced by the youth of the Islamic world, which extend to different civilisations change starting with self-change, and the building of societies on this faith, which aims at preserving human dignity. The initiative comes in line with the Ministry of Culture and Sport strategy to empower youth.

The ceremony includes speeches by a number of participating ministers to identify the most important issues of the youth sector in Islamic countries and the key role of youth in creating a better future based on supporting sustainable development strategies for future generations.

On the occasion of the selection “Doha - the Capital of Islamic Youth 2019” in recognition of Qatar's efforts in supporting and empowering the Islamic youth, the Ministry of Culture and Sports is set to organise an array of special events this year.

The activities will be held under the slogan ‘Youth is the Power of the Nation ’, and aim at strengthening the bonds of friendship and respect that the State of Qatar brings together with many countries in the world, especially the Islamic world. Doha hosts such events because it is a land of dialogue, tolerance, and openness to civilizations. The event meets the strategy of the Ministry of Culture and Sports that is based on empowering young people through implementation and management of activities and programs.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports employs all its capabilities, and experience in order to organise the activities of “Doha - the Capital of the Islamic Youth for 2019” under the supervision and organization of Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events. Qatar is well known of its experience in organising the largest Arab, Islamic and international events.

Throughout Muslim history, Islamic youth have faced many challenges, including the challenges faced by the early Muslims who believed in the message of the Prophet (PBUH). Since then, young Muslims have continued to translate faith in the renaissance of the nation. The motto also reinforces the idea that in every civilizational cycle, youth play a leading role whenever they believe that change begins with self-change. It also reflects Doha's keenness to be a suitable place of choice for young people to interact and discusses the main issues that concern them, and to activate the conditions of empowerment for a better life for Islamic societies.

In an interview with ILOVEQATAR.NET, Hareb Mohammed Aljabri, Director of Public Libraries and heritage at the Department at the Ministry of Culture and Sports told:

“Last year it was announced that Qatar would be the Capital of Islamic Youth for 2019 in recognition of Qatar’s efforts in supporting and empowering the Islamic youth, since then we started preparing for this moment. This a very big event for Qatar that is adding value to all youth in Qatar specifically and the Islamic world in general."

"Different events are lined up to mark this special occasion a successful one. One of the events which is under Qatar Scientific Club’s responsibility is innovation and invention where we will receive inventors from all the Islamic countries and there will be a competition for one week where they can show their creative inventions and skills," he added.

Talking about the goal of such initiative, Hareb Mohammed Aljabri said: “There are different goals for this event, the main goal is to focus on the youth because they will build the nations! So we aim to unify youth from different countries to support their skills in order to add value to their life and experience, to empower them and strengthen their role at the local and international levels.”

An array of special events to be held

The activities of “Doha – the Capital of Islamic Youth 2019” varied from a number of activities, programs and festivals which will take place in Doha, with the participation of youth delegations from various Islamic countries to allow youth to discuss many current issues. The activities include:

    • Doha Award for Youth Creativity
    • Doha Oasis for Innovation
    • Doha Forum of Islamic Youth
    • Doha Youth Camp for Voluntary and Humanitarian Work

    The activities will conclude by the end of 2019, and the winners of Doha Award for Youth Creativity will be honored in a ceremony. These events will be organised and supervised by Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events.

    The Doha Forum of Islamic Youth is among these activities which will be held on the occasion of “Doha – the Capital of Islamic Youth 2019” and it provides different opportunities for young people of Islamic countries to participate, exchange experiences and dialogue on issues related to youth. The Forum is dedicated to promoting the values of good governance, transparency, sustainable development, and the safe use of social media.

    Also there is an activity which is Doha Award for Youth Creativity and it aims to value youth skills and creativity in various artistic, and also for young delegates who will participate in the event. The Award attracts outstanding talents in the various literary, scientific and artistic fields in order to motivate them to raise their talents from the hobby to the level of professionalism.

    Among the activities also are Doha Youth Camp for Voluntary and Humanitarian Work, which is an opportunity for young Muslims to get training in disaster management, and will be held in cooperation with the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS). It offers youth the opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas in the field of volunteering, humanitarian work and relief.
