The essence of the recently-concluded Holy Month of Ramadan was once again justified as local social enterprise Wa'hab has helped feeding Qatar's diverse community by giving away free Iftar boxes to pedestrians, families, and laborers who are earning less than average.

Formed in 2017, Wa’hab redistributes, recycles and reuses surplus food through its increasing support network of food & beverage companies and volunteers aptly named ‘Food Heroes’.

This year, Wa’hab distributed over 4,500 Iftar kits, 1200 kg of non-perishable food items, 1,000 containers of laban, plus 1,500 cans of hummus and pickles to fasting residents throughout Doha. The food was kindly donated by private and corporate well-wishers of Wa’hab including Sharwa Family Restaurant, KEO International Consultants, Siemens, Ali Bin Ali, and Dandy Arabia.

Wa’hab Executive Director Reem Al-Muftah says, “I’m so proud of this initiative as it boosts community morale and integrates all groups of people into one beautiful cause. We should all be working together to redistribute perfectly good food to our community otherwise it will end up in landfills.”

Wardha Mamukoya, founder of Wa’hab agrees, saying, “There’s a million reasons why we should help each other. It’s beyond amazing when people from all different walks of life come together for a noble cause. Wa’hab will continue its efforts to help others, reduce food wastage and make this world a better place.”

With sustainability and food security becoming a hot topic in Qatar, Wa’hab’s popularity is gaining momentum. In March this year, Wa’hab was invited by the Qatar Tourism Authority to participate at the Qatar International Food Festival as an official partner. As a recent winner of the Lean StartUp program from Qatar Business Incubation Centre (QBIC), Wa’hab has plans to expand its operations throughout Doha.
