The e-sports tournament scene in Qatar has been thriving, with more and more national, regional, and international competitions being held in the country. A popular esports category is FIFA, recently rebranded as EA Sports FC.

On this edition of ILQ Level Up, we caught up with a prominent player in the league who has dominated competitions in Qatar such as Ooredoo Nation League and AAMeghessib's Back-2-Back. Get to know Mohammad Alkhdour as he talks about his esports journey.

ILQ: Can you tell us about yourself and what you do?

Mohammad: I'm Mohammad Alkhdour, also known as MRYKH, a professional FIFA/EAFC player.

Gaming isn't just a hobby for me – it's my passion. Every day is a chance to enhance my skills and learn from my mistakes. My dream is to win an Esports World Cup and be on top always.

ILQ: How did your gaming and e-sports journey start?

Mohammad: I started gaming in 2010 and the game that got me into it is FIFA because I was a football player in many clubs in Qatar: Qatar Sports Club, Lusail Sports Club, and Al Markhiya Sports Club.

I started playing FIFA/EAFC competitively from FIFA 23. My journey in FIFA/EAFC has been a thrilling adventure, marked by countless hours of dedication and hard work. From the early days of honing my skills to the exhilarating moments of competitive play, each step has been a learning experience.

I've faced challenges, celebrated victories, and evolved as a player. The journey is ongoing, filled with a relentless pursuit of improvement and the excitement of what lies ahead in the dynamic world of EAFC.

ILQ: Which competitions have you participated in so far?

Mohammad: I have participated in many tournaments: Ooredoo Nation, Gamerstation, Playhera, FIFA Global Series (1, 2, 3, 4), VirtuoCity, Al Madani Worldwide Tournament, QOC E-Games Tournament 2023, Redbull AAMeghessib's Back-2-Back and FC Pro-open Ladder (October, November, and December).

I've won Ooredoo Nation, Redbull AAMeghessib's Back-2-Back, VirtuoCity in FIFA 23 and EAFC 24, QOC E-Games Tournament 2023.

ILQ: How would you describe your playstyle?

Mohammad: I would describe my playstyle in EAFC 24 as possession-oriented with a strong emphasis on attacking. I strive to control the game, build up play patiently, and exploit openings to create goal-scoring chances.

ILQ: Do you have any in-game strategies you're willing to share?

Mohammad: In EAFC, my strategy revolves around aggressive attacking, constant pressing, and leveraging counterattacks. I prioritize high-pressure plays to unsettle opponents and swiftly transition into counterattacking opportunities. This approach aims to control the game's tempo and capitalize on openings for goal-scoring chances.

ILQ: How do you prepare for tournaments?

Mohammad: In my tournament preparation, I prioritize getting 8 hours of sleep and maintaining a healthy diet. I also collaborate with my coach in training camps, practice consistently, and actively participate in matches, as these are key aspects of my routine. I'm always exploring new tactics, especially by testing myself against pro players, to fine-tune my strategies and discover what works best for my competitive play.

ILQ: What advice would you give to those who want to get better at the game?

Mohammad: My advice to those who want to get better at FIFA/EAFC is to sleep 8 hours a day, eat healthy food, practice more, participate in tournaments, and watch pro players and learn from them.

ILQ: What is your preferred squad build?

Mohammad: This depends on your playstyle. I like attacking, so I will go with 4-3-2-1. I prefer my attackers to have a mix of pace and skills (5-star skill moves + 5-star weak foot ) for example: Hamm, R9.

ILQ: Which FIFA version would you say is your favorite?

FIFA 23
