Qatar Museum posted on their Instagram that six individuals who have vandalized the East-West/West-East by Richard Serra have been apprehended by the authorities.

For the past two months, security have been patrolling around to overwatch this public art installation. Qatar Museum emphasized:

"Vandalism of all kinds is a crime punishable by law, and Qatar Museums emphasises our collective social responsibility to preserve public art.

Qatar Museums recently carried out a clean-up operation to restore Serra’s sculpture after it was defaced."

East-West/West-East is one of the most iconic art installation of Qatar located in Zekreet, in Al Shahaniya Municipality and the second installation by Richard Serra after '7'.

This art installation spans over a kilometre in length, and crosses the peninsula of the Brouq Nature Reserve connecting the waters of the Gulf. It consists of four steel plates measured by their relation to the topography. The plates, which rise to 14.7 meters and 16.7 meters above the ground, are level to each other; they are also level to the gypsum plateaus on either side. Despite the great distance that the plates span, all four can be seen and explored from either end of the sculpture.

In March 2020, Qatar museum announced the specialized cleaning process will begin due to the deliberate damage caused by visitors and started anti-vadalism campaign in November of the same year.
