Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari, Acting Chief Medical Officer at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), and senior leaders from across the healthcare provider’s network of hospitals celebrated Qatar National Day with patients and staff.

Led by the public relations team from its Corporate Communications Department, HMC’s network of hospitals and facilities celebrated Qatar National Day with a series of events that reflected the country’s heritage, culture, and traditions.

As part of the celebrations, each hospital organized a number of events featuring traditional tents and activities, including henna drawing and handcrafted items. Staff dressed in traditional clothing and served local delicacies, and traditional songs were played in celebration of the occasion.

Decorated in accordance with this year’s theme - Promise of Prosperity and Glory - the national flag was proudly displayed throughout HMC’s hospitals. On 12 December, events were held at Al Khor Hospital, The Cuban Hospital, the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR), the Communicable Disease Center (CDC), and the Enaya Continuing Care Center in Muaither.

Al Wakra Hospital, Hamad General Hospital, Heart Hospital, and the mental health service held their celebrations on 13 December, and were followed by a number of cultural events held at Al Rumailah Hospital, the Women’s Wellness and Research Center, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, and the Ambulatory Care Center on 14 December.

Commenting on the celebrations, Mr. Ali Abdulla Al Khater, Chief Communications Officer and Chair of the Healthcare Communications Committee, said: “On 18 December we celebrate our shared identity and the history which shapes our country. We contemplate the values and ambitions that bring this country together; a nation small in size, but great and noble in actions and in ambition. Qatar National Day presents an opportunity to express our gratitude and reverence to our ancestors who have endured many hardships to make Qatar what it is today.”

“HMC was honored to take part in the festivities for Qatar National Day 2017. This day brings together all those who live in Qatar, both citizens and residents alike, to celebrate our unity, loyalty, and shared pride in our nation’s many accomplishments. As the main healthcare provider in Qatar, HMC is pleased to play a part in nurturing and growing a sense of national solidarity among its staff, patients, and families,” Mr. Al Khater added.

Mr. Nayef Abboud Al Shammari, Assistant Executive Director of Media at HMC added that Qatar National Day provides an opportunity to pause and celebrate the country and the achievements of its people. He said: “We are filled with pride for our country and our National Day provides an opportunity to celebrate this. The activities which take place across our network of hospitals to mark this occasion highlight our values of unity, respect, and goodwill. As each year passes, we are proud to see the extent to which HMC, as the leading healthcare provider in Qatar, has contributed to the country’s development and progress.”

In recognition of Qatar National Day, each year HMC organizes a range of activities to mark the occasion, providing staff, patients, and families with a unique opportunity to experience the true spirit of Qatar’s great pride, heritage, and culture.
