Zakat Al Fitr is to be paid before the end of Ramadan, specifically before the Eid Al Fitr prayer. The main reason is that those in need may enjoy Eid with the food charity provided to them.

What is the Zakat Al Fitr amount, and how is it paid?

The Department of Zakat Affairs at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs annually decides the Zakat Al Fitr amount for Qatar.

For the year 2024, the Zakat Al Fitr amount has been announced as QR 15.

Zakat Al Fitr is to be paid in the form of food. As per religious teaching, it is to be offered from the majority of people’s food; therefore, it is most commonly donated as rice.

Regarding quantity, the food should be equivalent to one Saa’ as Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prescribed, which equates to 2.5 kgs per person.

One Saa’ refers to the quantity an individual may be able to scoop with both their hands.

Paying Zakat Al Fitr in Qatar

There are many convenient ways to pay Zakat Al Fitr in Qatar. The Department of Zakat Affairs at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs receives Zakat Al Fitr in cash at QR 15 per person and distributes it to those entitled within Qatar.

The amounts can be donated at the administration’s offices and collection points across Qatar.

Alternatively, Zakat Al Fitr can also be paid by sending a text message containing the letter (Z) to the number 92229; however, this only applies to Ooredoo customers.

Zakat Al Fitr can also be paid through the Awqaf application (Apple | Android).

Charity organizations like Qatar Charity & Qatar Red Crescent Society also accept Zakat Al Fitr donations via a dedicated payment service on their website or even at their kiosks across Qatar:

You can also pay Zakat Al Fitr independently by providing the prescribed amount of food charity to someone who needs it.
