The Ministry of Public Health will soon introduce in schools the new non-invasive saliva-based COVID-19 test that is less intrusive for children and does not require the need for the standard often painful nasopharyngeal swab, Hamad General Hospital Medical Director Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani has said.
In an interview with Qatar Radio on Sunday, Dr. Maslamani mentioned that all schoolchildren will be tested to assess the extent of the disease among students. He also pointed out that the rate of COVID-19 infection in schools is lower than among the general public thus students attending in-person classes do not expose them to any additional risks.

Dr. Maslamani also said that the closure of some school classes confirms the strict measures taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in schools so parents should not fear sending their children to schools.
