Here are the steps that were taken by health authorities to protect Qatar from COVID-19

In an effort to assure the residents of Qatar and affirm the precautionary measures that are being done in regards to novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ministry of Public Health posted a photo detailing the steps that Qatar has taken to date to protect the population from coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Ministry of Public Health Qatar, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, and Qatar Red Crescent has joined efforts on the following:

Robust thermal screening procedures at Hamad International Airport and seaports for passengers entering Doha from all countries. 10 thermal cameras were installed in HIA under the supervision of a team of doctors and nurses at the Ministry of Public Health and the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

A special clinic at the airport was also set-up to conduct interviews and examinations of all suspected travelers at the airport.

The Ministry of Public Health has established residential accommodation for those people who meet the quarantine standards.

For healthcare workers, additional training and the strengthening of infection prevention and control and laboratory procedures have all been prioritized.

A community awareness campaign has been delivered featuring a dedicated national website, TV and radio interviews with medical experts, regular social media messaging, and newspaper coverage. These activities have included Arabic, English, Hindi, Malayalam, French, and Chinese languages.

The Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control teams have been engaged in regular active surveillance visits to hospitals and Intensive Care Units to ensure that no suspected cases of respiratory infections are missed in accordance with the WHO.

As of March 5, there are only 8 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in Qatar and they are all in stable health conditions and undergoing treatment at the Communicable Disease Center. They were all evacuated from Iran and flew in a private plane before directly heading to quarantine. in stable health conditions and undergoing treatment at the Communicable Disease Center.

The Ministry of Public Health has also set-up a dedicated 24/7 call center for all questions and inquiries related to coronavirus.
