According to BBC News, over 1,300 English football fans have received banning orders from the UK Home Office from attending the World Cup in Qatar. These individuals have been recognized for their history of violence and disorderly conduct in previous football matches.
The banned individuals are required to hand in their passports to the police in order to stop them from traveling for the tournament.
"We will not let the behaviour of a minority of lawbreakers tarnish what will be an exciting tournament."
These new measures come into effect by 14 October 2022. Those who do not comply and attempt to attend the tournament could face 6 months in prison and an unlimited fine, according to BBC News.
In addition, these individuals will not be permitted to travel abroad and will be subjected to thorough checks. Targeted operations at ports will be deployed to identify previous offenders that are attempting to travel to Qatar.
