Uber has recently introduced new features to its app to help its riders with the launch of the new Safety Check-Up feature.

Uber said "the safety of everyone who uses the Uber app is a top priority, and Uber is constantly reviewing and developing new features to improve safety on the app for both riders and drivers. Keeping this in mind, Uber is introducing the Safety Checkup feature. In an industry-leading move, the Safety Checkup feature will enable you to complete your safety profile by turning on and utilizing the Trusted Contacts, PIN Verification and RideCheck features that are available in-app."

As per Uber, all these tools have been designed to improve the safety of the Uber platform:

  • Trusted Contacts: You can choose your Trusted Contacts in the app and set reminders to share your live journey with them, so family and friends can follow the trip and make sure you arrive at your destination safely.
  • PIN verification: To ensure that you are getting into the correct car, you can turn on PIN verification, where the driver must input the correct pin provided by you before the trip can start. The Safety Check Up encourages you to enable the feature and choose the hours it is active.
  • RideCheck: This feature uses GPS technology to detect anomalies in trips, such as a long stopover or potential collision. If the app alerts us to such events, we’ll check in on you and the driver and offer resources to get help.

In a report by The Peninsula, as per Nasser Al Sharshani, Uber Country Manager, Qatar, “we are anticipating a high number of visitors this November, and the safety of everyone who uses our app is a top priority. The Safety Check-Up feature will encourage riders to make use of the full range of safety tools offered on the app, ensuring that they can enjoy peace of mind on every journey as part of our readiness to host Qatar’s visitors.”
