Qatar Airways yesterday announced its “further commitment to Ireland” by partnering with The Curragh following the inaugural Dublin-Doha flight on June 12.
The Curragh is a renowned racecourse in Ireland.
The airline’s entry into the Irish market “strengthens Irish and Qatari business relationships and connects Irish passengers to more than 150 destinations worldwide”, the Doha-based carrier has said in a statement.
“Through the Irish and Qatari affinity for horses, Qatar Airways is now drawing together the cultural heritage of both nations,” the statement notes.
Qatar Airways was also recently announced as official airline partner of the 2017 Dublin Horse Show, further establishing strong relations with the Irish equestrian industry and business networks.
The launch of the new Dublin-Doha route provides Irish passengers with the first-ever direct Dublin-Doha service, providing easier access to the Middle East, Asia and Australia, with “seamless connections” to Sydney, Hong Kong, Melbourne and other global destinations.
Irish passengers will experience Qatar Airways’ on-board service and have the opportunity to enjoy the airline’s relaunched entertainment system offering up to 3,000 options.
Commenting on the announcement, Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar al-Baker said: “The Qatar Airways team is working hard to establish and develop our relationships within the Irish community. We are delighted to enter the Irish market and expand our global network of more than 150 destinations with the addition of the great city of Dublin. Given the Irish people’s passion for travel, we believe this new route will be very successful and will inspire even greater communication and trade between both Irish and Qatari travellers.
“Qatar Airways’ partnership with The Curragh is a great example of this. As such an established and world renowned equestrian organisation, this is a great opportunity to connect the Irish and Qatari communities and we are delighted to be announcing this new development.”
Dublin is a hub for more than 1,000 leading multinational companies and the daily non-stop service will connect both business and leisure travellers to the airline’s extensive network.
Qatar Airways will operate its daily Dublin service with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which has a two-class configuration, including 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy.

A Qatar-themed race day takes place on August 20 and will include the inaugural Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club Curragh Stakes. The Group 2 Qatar Airways Sapphire stakes will take place on July 15 with total prize of €120,000.
