Team Qatar Swimmers achieved first place for the 16-18 years category, in the first Arab championship for age groups in the short course (25 meters), which concluded its competitions today, 27 October 2021, in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, with the participation of 174 swimmers from 16 countries.
Qatari swimmer, Mohamed Mahmoud, won the best swimmer cup for this category.
Team Qatar won six medals (3 gold, one silver and two bronze) in the final day's competitions, ending its participation in the tournament with a total of 30 medals (11 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze).
Abdullah Ahmed won the first gold medal, in the 200-meter backstroke for the 14-15-year-old category, then Mohammed Mahmoud won the second gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke for the 16-18-year-old category, before the relay team consisting of Karim Salah, Omar Hassan and Youssef Hassan and Mohamed Mahmoud won 3rd gold medal in the 4x100m medley for 16-18 years old.
The silver medal was won by the relay team consisting of Abdullah Ahmed, Abdullah Al Khalidi, Tamim Mohammed and Ali Al Nuaimi in the 4x100m medley for the 14-15 year category.
As for the two bronze medals, Abdulaziz Al Obaidli won the first medal in the 100-meter medley for the category of 19 years and above, while Abdullah Al Khalidi won the second medal in the 50-meter breaststroke for the 14-15-year-old category.
President of the Qatar Swimming Association, Khalil Al Jaber, praised the results achieved by Team Qatar in the first Arab championship for the age groups in the short (25 meters) race, and said that obtaining 11 gold medals is a great achievement for the first time in the Arab championship.
