Qatar wins 28 medals at start of GCC Aquatics Championships

The Qatari swimming team achieved 28 medals (18 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze) on the first day of the 28th GCC Aquatics Championships, which started today at Hamad Aquatic Centre with the participation of the six Gulf countries.

The opening of the championship was attended by the President of the International Swimming Federation Hussain Al-Musallam, the President of the Qatar Swimming Association Khalil Al Jaber, and the Chairman of GCC Swimming organizing committee Taha Al Kashari.

Karim Salama won the first Qatari gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle for the 15-17 years category.

Abdullah Al-Ghamri won the second gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle for the category (13-14 years), while Bahraini Faris Abdul Rahman won the silver medal, and Omani Mishaal Al-Kulaibi won the bronze medal.

Ali Al-Naimi won the third gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle (15-17 years old), Saudi Arabia's Safwan Al-Qadmani won the silver, and Bahrain's Ali Al-Alawi the bronze medal.

Ziyad Mohammed won the fourth gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle race (11-12 years), Omani Moaz Al-Shaibani won the silver medal, while Saudi Ghanem Al-Salahi won the bronze medal. Omar Hassan won the fifth gold medal in the 400-meter medley (15-17 years), Saudi Arabia's Aqil Al-Hashem won the silver medal, and the Kuwaiti Yassin Al-Attiyah the bronze medal.

Ziad Muhammad was his second and sixth gold medal for Qatar in the 200-meter medley (11-12 years), while Kuwaiti Al-Fawzan Dhaheri won the silver medal, and his compatriot Yasser Dashti won the bronze medal.

Saif Al-Borshid won Qatar's seventh gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly, 13/14 years old.

Ibrahim Al-Hail won the eighth gold medal in the 200m backstroke, category (13-14 years), while Saudi Ali Al-Triki won the silver and his compatriot Muhammad Al-Issa won the bronze.

The Qatari team, consisting of Karim Salama, Noureddine Khadash, Omar Hassan and Tamim Mohammed, won the ninth gold medal in the 4x200 meters freestyle (15-17 years old). Kuwait won the silver medal and Bahrain the bronze medal.

Karim Salama won Qatar's tenth gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle race (15-17 years), Kuwaiti Yassin Al-Attiyah won the silver medal, and Qatar's Nour Al-Din Khadash won the bronze medal. Gilani Aziz won the eleventh gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle race (13-14 years).

Tamim Mohammed Al-Hamayda won the 12th gold medal in the 50-meter butterfly (15-17 years old).

Saif Al-Borshid won the 13th gold medal in the 50-meter butterfly race (13-14 years), while Kuwaiti Mahdi Al-Sayegh won the silver medal, and his compatriot Hussein Al-Mahmeed won the bronze medal.

Abdullah Al-Khalidi won the 14th gold medal in the 100m breaststroke, category 15-17 years, and Qatari Yousef Al-Khelaifi won the silver and Bahraini Saleh Saad won the bronze medal.

Abdullah Al-Hamayda won the 15th gold medal in the 100m backstroke, category (11-12 years), Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Obaid won the silver and Qatar's Rashid Al-Rumaihi won the bronze.

Youssef Hassan won the 16th gold medal in the 200m backstroke, category (15-17 years), while Kuwaiti Faisal Al-Tanak won the silver medal and Bahraini Ahmed Abdulnabi the bronze medal.

The Qatari team, consisting of Abdullah Al-Ghamri, Saif Al-Borshid, Hamza Shaalan and Jilani Aziz, won the 17th gold medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay category (13-14 years), Saudi Arabia won the silver medal and Kuwait the bronze medal.

The Qatari relay team, consisting of Karim Salama, Tamim Al-Hamayda, Omar Hassan and Ali Al-Nuaimi, won the 18th gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle relay category (15-17 years). Kuwait won the silver medal and Bahrain the bronze medal.
