Ooredoo Prepares for the 2015 Ooredoo Marathon

Ooredoo Marathon To Feature World Class Athletes and First-Time Runners, as People Run Together for Health.

Ooredoo today announced that 3,250 participants have registered to take part in the Ooredoo Marathon 2015 – more than double the number of runners in last year’s event – which will take place on Friday, 9 January 2015.

It was announced today that this year’s marathon will begin at 6:40am from Katara and will take full marathon runners along the Corniche to the Museum of Islamic Art Park in Doha and back again twice, in a two-lap course.

As well as the increase in competitors, Ooredoo will host some of the world’s top professional marathon runners for the first time this year. The professionals, which include Ethiopia’s Ruit Aga Sora and Kenya’s George Kipruto Sirma, will run alongside competitors as they train for the marathon season and aim to win part of a prize purse worth QR 1,000,000.

” To ensure the safety of all runners and spectators, the Corniche road, as well as several areas of downtown Doha will be closed from 6.30am – 12.00pm.

Ooredoo have already begun setting up water stalls and venues for a fun-filled day for visitors and competitors alike.

Ooredoo started the Ooredoo Marathon in 2013 as a way to bring people together and encourage Qatar’s community to live healthier lifestyles. Now in its third year, the Ooredoo Marathon features four courses for runners of all abilities, including a full marathon, half- marathon, 10km, 5km and two special children’s 1km and 3km fun run. In 2014, more than 1,500 people participated with teams from businesses, universities, schools and athletics clubs taking part.

While the run is open to all, prizes are awarded to the best runners in a range of categories, based on age and gender.

Funds raised by entry fees to the Ooredoo Marathon will be donated to support Reach Out To Asia projects in Qatar and Asia.

The event which is organised and sponsored by Ooredoo, is part of the company’s ongoing sports campaign which aims to encourage more people to get involved in sports and inspire Qatar’s future sporting champions.

Ooredoo are making sure the Ooredoo Marathon is as safe and prepared as possible and will help provide runners with water and any necessary minor first aid during the race.
