Aspire Zone is encouraging residents interested in participating in its third annual Ramadan Sport Festival to sign up quickly, as registration, which opened last week, for basketball, football, and volleyball is already full. Met with overwhelming response, spaces were quickly snapped up; however, with six activities on offer, there are still plenty of sports for residents to choose from.

Abdulla Al Khater Head of Sports and Events at Aspire Zone Foundation, explained the significance of the annual Ramadan Sport Festival: “This community-inspired event reflects our on-going commitment to providing year-round activities designed to encourage residents to adopt healthy and active lifestyles. And the sheer variety of sports ensures that there is something for everyone.”

Al Khater continued, said: “The annual Ramadan Sport Festival has grown considerably since the inaugural event in 2012, and each year, it has been met with overwhelming response from the public. I am delighted to announce that the 2014 edition will include even more activities for the whole family to enjoy during the evening.”

Returning for a third yet, the event is set to kick off on Wednesday, July 2. Following last year’s popularity, this year’s edition has been expanded to include 11 different activities for men, women, and children of all athletic abilities, as well as people with special needs. Activities include beach soccer, volleyball, football, basketball, junior football, flag football, handball, radio-controlled car races, and table tennis.

The festival is also incorporating more sports for women in a bid to encourage more female residents to participate. The activities this year have been organized in partnership with the Qatar Women's Sport Committee (QWSC).

Ahlam Salem Al Mana, President of QWSC, commented on the collaboration: “We are fully committed to developing sport for women in Qatar and, alongside Aspire Zone, have great pride in promoting the importance of sports across society. So, as President of the Qatar Women’s Sport Committee, and on behalf of our members, it gives me great pleasure in announcing the preparations of Aspire Zone’s Ramadan Sport Festival activities, which will include volleyball, basketball and handball.”

“I also wish to thank Aspire officials and staff members for collaborating with us for these activities. The Qatar Women’s Sport Committee is especially appreciative of the great efforts displayed by all in making this event a success. Working together, we can develop sports for all,” Al Mana concluded.

Additionally, in the spirit of inclusivity, AZF, in collaboration with the Qatar Paralympics Committee, is organizing a table tennis tournament for special needs.

Additionally, with tournaments free to enter, as well as watch, spectators are encouraged to come down to Aspire Zone to cheer on their favorite players and teams.

Throughout the year, AZF provides residents with the opportunity to participate in a number of exciting events, as well as win fantastic giveaways, all while learning about the importance of health, fitness and nutrition. The Ramadan Sport Festival is AZF’s latest offering, and it demonstrates the Zone’s commitment to serving the community by creating the ultimate sports and leisure destination.
