White Cane Day

On the occasion of White Cane Day, and as part of UNESCO-ITU Digital Inclusion Week in the Arab region, SASOL, Qatar National Library and UNESCO are organizing an awareness raising event entitled “Bridging Gaps, Enabling Inclusion for the blind”. The event will feature the screening of short films inspired and written by Accessible Qatar Ambassador Kholood Abu-Sharida, to highlight the challenges experienced by blind people in their daily lives.

A panel discussion of experts will also be organized to highlight the innovative work of Qatar-based institutions, including the Translation and Interpreting Institute, MADA and the Qatar Social & Cultural Center for Blind, which are leveraging the power of technology to enhance access to information for people with disabilities. A braille printer will be available at the venue, providing the public with the opportunity to have their names printed in braille. Blind children from Al Noor Institute will perform at the event. The celebration of White Cane Day is part of SASOL, Qatar National Library and UNESCO’s efforts to provide solutions and support to people with disabilities in Qatar through awareness raising, information exchange and access to knowledge.
The event, open to the public, will take place on 15 October 2018 at 17:00 at Qatar National Library in the Special Events Area
