The Hamad Medical Corporation announced on 23 March 2024 that the Al Wakra Hospital had successfully helped a couple give birth to quadruplets through an IVF procedure.
It was stated by Dr. Lolwa Al Ansari, Senior Consultant and Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Al Wakra Hospital, that this case is special as it is the first quadruplet pregnancy since the establishment of the Assisted Reproduction Unit in Al Wakrah Hospital in February 2022.
Moreover, the patient had sought out help from the department due to delayed conception for 14 years and had undergone two unsuccessful IVF procedures outside of the Hamad Medical Corporation.
Two weeks into the procedure, it was found that there were three sacs instead of two in the mother's uterus. It was only in the twelfth week that the fourth sac was detected as a surprise.
The mother delivered quadruplets as a cesarean in the thirty-first week of pregnancy, and all the newborns were in good health.
