Vodafone Qatar, in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), organised a blood donation drive at Vodafone’s head office in Qatar Science and Technology Park. Vodafone staff and their family and friends were quick to volunteer, recognising the high demand for blood donation in Qatar. Medical staff from the blood donation unit of Hamad Medical Corporation ensured that blood donors were carefully screened to meet the strict criteria and monitored to ensure their safety. “Around 20,000-30,000 people a year need blood transfusions in Qatar so it’s critical that as many people as possible play their part in the vital community act of donating blood. Organisations have an important role in promoting blood donation with their staff and I’m proud that so many Vodafone staff and their family and friends donated their blood at the drive,” said Dana Haidan, Head of Corporate Responsibility, Vodafone Qatar. Hamad Hospital Blood Bank provides blood supply covering the needs of all the governmental and private hospitals in Qatar. Eligible donors are encouraged to give blood twice a year, which would greatly help in maintaining an adequate blood supply for the country. Eligible blood donors can donate blood 3-4 times a year safely. HMC staff ensure that blood donation is safe and hygienic through its streamlined procedures of registration, donation and screening. Blood donation takes no more than 15-20 minutes. Gulf Times
