A “very hot” day is expected in the country today along with strong winds in most areas and poor visibility in some places due to blowing dust, the Qatar Met department has said. The wind speed may go up to 28 knots in some inshore areas at times, according to the weather office. There is no warning for offshore areas today.

On Wednesday, the Met department had said windy and dusty conditions were also likely on Saturday and Sunday, and issued a warning for offshore areas as well on those days. “Fresh to strong northwesterly winds are expected to affect most areas of the country during (the) daytime on Saturday and Sunday due to an extension of the ‘Indian monsoon seasonal low’ over the region,” the report had said.

The Met department had urged people to remain cautious and avoid venturing into the sea during this period in view of the expected conditions.
Meanwhile, the forecast for inshore areas today says it will be hazy in some places at first, followed by a very hot day with some clouds and slight to blowing dust at times.

Offshore areas are likely to see hazy to misty conditions in some places towards the early hours, followed by slightly dusty conditions later.
Visibility may drop to 3km or less in some areas at first, according to the forecast.
Yesterday, the highest temperature recorded in the country was 47C in Turayna, followed by 46C in Batna, Karana and Sheehaniya. In the capital, a highest temperature of 45C was recorded in the Qatar University area.
A maximum temperature of 46C has been forecast in Doha and Al Khor today, while the mercury level is expected to touch 44C in Mesaieed and Wakrah. (Source)
