The authorities are planning to build separate roads for trucks and trailers, away from the roads being used by cars and other light vehicles, according to a senior official of the Urban Planning Development Authority (UPDA). The project has been incorporated in the Doha Master Plan and is expected to be completed by the end of next year, said Ali Abdulla Al Mazroui, Assistant Director General of Urban Planning Affairs at the UPDA. “The proposal was discussed recently and it has been included in the Doha Master Plan. The separate lanes dedicated for trucks and trailers aim to reduce traffic congestion on other roads and highways and ensure traffic safety,” said Al Mazroui. These roads will be constructed away from major intersections, he added. Complaints about trucks and trailers causing traffic accidents and damaging newly constructed roads were raised at various civic bodies including the Central Municipal Council. The Doha Master Plan also seeks to expand the green areas in the city and develop more parks, foot bridges and walkways, among other facilities.
