The third edition of The New York Times ‘Art for Tomorrow’ Conference, convened in association with Qatar Museums under the patronage of its Chairperson Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, concluded today at the W Doha Hotel & Residences. This instalment also featured a contemporary art fair that focused on the overarching theme of the conference “Boundaries, Identity, and the Public Realm”, that was opened at the W Doha’s 29^th floor for the participants and the public to partake in.

Held from March 10 to 13, the Art for Tomorrow Conference saw the attendance of over 300 world-renowned art and cultural influencers who convened to explore the tangible contributions art and cultural development can make to economic growth and nation-building initiatives.

The conference supports Qatar Museums’ position as the nation’s focal point for connecting cultures, encouraging cultural exchange and nurturing creative talent. Khalid Yousef Al Ibrahim, Chief Strategic Planning Officer at Qatar Museums said, “We are delighted with the success of the third edition of Art for Tomorrow and the caliber and talent of this year’s speakers has been extremely impressive. The conference helped to showcase Qatar Museums’ commitment and vision of becoming a vibrant centre for arts, culture and education on a global scale. Much more than a conference, Art for Tomorrow also offered an all-inclusive experiential dimension, including the rare opportunity for the public and guests to view six of the most important Islamic gold coins in the world, on show for the first time ever at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) until April 3rd; private tours of local galleries, plus live auctions at AlBahie Auction House and a visit to the Richard Sierra East-west/West-east desert sculpture. Artists representing leading international galleries showcased at the START Doha Art Fair, which benefits from the successes of START London, now on its fourth year.
